Download the android app
The app for android phones and devices is designed to track your journey and alert you when you are near a place of interest; you can then choose to read some information about the place you can see or are passing through. The rest of the time the app sits in the background, so that you do not have to watch it continuously and can do other things or just enjoy the view.
To use the app, you just choose your route, tell the app which way you are travelling, and then allow it to run. It will disappear from your screen (apart from a notification icon) but will keep tracking as you travel. The places and information are exactly the same as on these website maps.
The app is completely free, and there is no advertising and no annoying pop-ups.

Unfortunately there is no similar app for Apple devices.
